Going public with your faith! Take the next step
Take a minute and read the following questions and answers about baptism, then fill out the form below and someone from our leadership team will be in touch with you.
In Matthew chapter 3, John the Baptist waded into the Jordan river alongside Jesus and submerged Jesus upon His request to be baptized. As Jesus immediately came up from the water, the Bible says that “the heavens were opened to Him, and He saw the Spirit of God descending like a dove and alighting upon Him. And suddenly a voice from came from heaven, saying, ‘This is My beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased.’” (Matthew 3:16,17). At Lifeway Church, baptism looks much the same. Those who express the desire to be baptized will be submerged in water by our pastor, and immediately brought up into new life. We believe that The Father looks down on this act of obedience and is well pleased.
At Lifeway Church, baptism is a declaration of faith. It is an opportunity for you to stand in front of your family and friends and proclaim that Jesus is the Lord of your life, and you’ve chosen to follow Him. It is a physical representation of the way we are buried with Him and then raised with Him through faith (Colossians 2:12). It is a practical way to put off the old man, and put on the new man which was created in you according to God (Ephesians 4:24).
If you believe that Jesus Christ is the son of God, that He came to earth and died for your sins, and that He was resurrected on the third day, you can be baptized in His name. Baptism is for anyone, young and old alike, who believes these things and wants to make a public declaration of faith in Jesus.
Since we believe that baptism is the outward declaration of your inward decision to follow Jesus, we believe that baptisms should be a regular celebration of our church. We also believe that baptism is an act of childlike faith, and therefore there is no minimum age requirement to be baptized at Lifeway Church. Whether a desire arises in you spontaneously or you have thoughtfully planned it out, you can express your desire to be baptized and sign up to be baptized at the next baptism date. We are eager and excited to help you walk through this step of faith, and will do everything we can to make it happen.
On your baptism Sunday there will be a baptism tank set up either at the front of the auditorium (or outside, weather permitting). Once you enter into the water, a pastor will ask you if you believe Jesus Christ is the son of God, that He died for your sins, and was resurrected from the grave. He will then baptize you in the name of The Father, The Son, and The Holy Spirit, with the assistance of another leader in the church. You will be immediately raised up from the water into new life in Christ, and greeted with applause and cheer from a very proud church family.
The reason baptism is such a great step of faith is because it’s public. You are physically telling your church, family, and friends that you have decided to follow Jesus, and that you’re unashamed of Him. We will walk beside you through the rest of your walk with Christ, and do everything we can to help you grow.
If you’re not already part of a Life Group, we strongly encourage you to join one. Sunday morning services are great to sing songs and hear the message, but in a small group you have the opportunity to connect with others, share your thoughts and struggles, and create stronger relationships. There are many opportunities to grow in community and serve The Lord by serving at the church.
If you ever have a question or concern about anything, or ever just need someone to talk to, we are available. Our pastors and the leadership team will always make time for you.
